Route description
The 50 km route starts in Žirovnica village and then takes you across peaks until reaching the finish line in Kranjska Gora. There will be many stunning views of the Julian Alps and of the Austrian mountains and valleys as well.
You’ll begin your race from the village Žirovnica, cultural capital of Slovenia. Few meters higher, you can see lake Bled, with an island in the middle. Then your route takes you to the highest point of your race – Karavanke ridge, and can already be seen from Završnica valley. Don’t forget to take some pictures from the highest point of your race, because it’ll offer breathtaking views of Julian Alps and Mt. Triglav (highest peak of Slovenia).
You are following the ridge right to Golica and Klek. From there you have a great downhill in store, taking you straight to Mojstrana. A flat section follows next, but you still have some climbing to do – climb to the Srednji vrh, which offers a really nice view and then return to Kranjska Gora.
Runners, when planning to check out the route, please make sure you’re only using marked paths and are mindful of warning signs about wood harvesting. Be careful when crossing pastures and be mindful about animals’ behaviour. Always keep your dogs leashed when crossing such areas. Make sure the only print you leave on the trails is the one coming from your shoes. Pick up your trash and always carry poop bags for your dogs.
